Nobuko Miyamoto EcoSangha Seminar

“Dancing in a Circle” will bring to life many of the stories in Nobuko Miyamoto’s memoir Not Yo’ Butterfly with an opportunity to dialogue with her as she “talks story.”

Rev. Don Castro will introduce the program with a short chanting invocation, explanation of the Buddhist meaning of “mottainai” and introduction of Nobuko. Bon odori dancing including Nobuko’s “Mottainai” and “Kangie” will be presented for all to join and dance in a circle at the conclusion.

Donations from this event will go to Seattle Betsuin Buddhist Temple to support ongoing educational programs.

Hanamatsuri, literally flower festival, is celebrated on April 8, commemorating the birth of Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha became enlightened as Sakyamuni Buddha and this marks the release of sentient beings from suffering and sorrow.

This year, Hanamatsuri Service will take place at 12 noon at Seattle Koyasan Buddhist Temple. You can also join the service via Zoom. Please contact the Temple Office for the Zoom link.
