White River sponsors Body and Mind Seminar Sept. 16

On Saturday, September 16, White River Buddhist Temple is offering a Body and Mind Seminar, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Susan Gilkey, M.D. and minister’s assistant at Chicago Buddhist Temple, will offer a two-part session of yoga exercise and meditation. Following this, Dr. Gilkey and Rev. Koshin Ogui, former bishop of the Buddhist Churches of America and retired resident minister of White River, will give a joint Dharma talk.

Buddhist Women’s Conference returns Sept. 23

2017 WiB Flyer lite skyline + speakersAfter a year’s hiatus, the temple’s almost-annual Women in Buddhism conference is returning September 23, 2017.

The theme for the day is “Buddhist Paths: Women’s Choices.”

Three outstanding guest presenters have committed to sharing their knowledge and expertise that day: Rev. Carol Himaka, resident minister of Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church; Rev. Candace Shibata, minister at Berkeley Buddhist Temple; and Dr. Kiyoko Tokuno, senior lecturer in Comparative Religion at the University of Washington’s Jackson School of International Studies.

Seattle Pride Parade

On Sunday, June 25th, over 120 temple members expressed their support and Pride in the temple’s commitment to inclusivity in sharing Amida Buddha’s boundless wisdom and compassion, treating all with respect and dignity by marching in the Seattle Pride Parade.

Same sex marriage has been supported for over 40 years in our American Buddhist community.

Earlier this year both resident and guest ministers have delivered Sunday Dharma Talks about inclusivity and not being judgmental being core Buddhist teachings. This fall the temple is proud to announce that we will co-host with the Center for Buddhist Education a seminar at our temple on the LGBTQ+ Community and Shin Buddhism. More information will be posted shortly.

Register today for the NW Buddhist women’s conference

Buddhist Women’s Association conference:  October  7-9, 2016

All Buddhists or those interested in learning more about Buddhism are invited to attend the 44th NW Buddhist Women’s Association District Conference on October 7 – 9, 2016  at the Bellevue, WA Westin Hotel.

The theme, “Linked in the Nembutsu, Tsunagatte” promises an exciting program with outstanding  speakers, Dr. Sharon Suh (English) and Rev. Mutsumi Wondra (Japanese).

Registration has been extended until September 15. Full registration cost is $195.
