2018 Fall Taiko Workshop- The Full Meal Deal!

Seattle Buddhist Temple’s Matsuri Taiko will be holding an 8-9 session workshop for ages 11 through 111. The workshop will cover basic taiko rhythms, sticking and movement as well as playing dynamics as a group. With these skills, participants will learn to play a fun dynamic taiko song, which they will be encouraged to perform at the Seattle Buddhist Temple New Year’s Party on January 6th, 2019!

Bon Odori July 21, 22: save the dates

Mark your calendars for the annual Bon Odori festival, July 21, 22. Join us for traditional Japanese dance, food, drinks, cultural displays, and a beer garden with live music and happy hour. Times are 4-10 p.m., July 21 and 3-8 p.m., July 22.

Since Bon Odori is a Buddhist event, as always, each day’s dancing will be preceded by a short Buddhist service. New this year: Buddhism 101, brief lecture on Jodo Shinshu Buddhism right before the services.

Dance practice dates:  July 9-12, and 16, 17: 7:30 p.m.

Play taiko for a day! Saturday, September 30th 10 am- 12 pm
*Learn basics of how to hit the drum and play a simple song!
*2 hrs of solid fun!
Donation: $5

Or sign up for the Taiko “Full Meal Deal” Workshop starting Saturday, October 14th 10am-12pm and ending Saturday, Dec 16th
*16 hrs of taiko-taiko-taiko! Will meet Oct 14, 21, Nov 4, 11, 25, Dec 2, 9, 16
*Learn more basic technique, rhythms and play a song!
